St. Mark's Hospital Unveils Name and Details of Hospital to be Built in Draper

Salt Lake City, UT - St. Mark's Hospital announced today that the new hospital to be built at 11900 S. State Street will be named St. Mark's Lone Peak Hospital. Preliminary plans for this hospital have been in the works for several years with the land acquisition occurring in 2003.

The name was selected to reflect both the 130-year caring tradition of St. Mark's Hospital and the primary geographic landmark of one of the fastest growing areas along the Wasatch Front - southern Salt Lake County and northern Utah County. Appropriately, St. Mark's Hospital was the first hospital in the state and Lone Peak Wilderness Area was the first congressionally designated wilderness area in Utah. Groundbreaking for St. Mark's Lone Peak Hospital will occur in the first quarter of 2006 and is scheduled to open in the fall of 2007. The facility will open with 60 beds and have the ability to quickly expand to 108 beds as needed.

"We're excited to be the hospital that will provide a full range of services to the residents in those quickly growing communities," says John Hanshaw, CEO of St. Mark's Hospital. "This facility will be the perfect complement to the network of six MountainStar Hospitals which stretch from Brigham City to Payson." The new facility will offer a full array of acute care services to serve medical, obstetrical, surgical and pediatric patients. Services will include an emergency room, a women's center with state-of-the art birthing suites, orthopedics, cardiology, diagnostic imaging, an outpatient surgery center and a medical office building. The hospital is expected to employ close to 500 people and have a medical staff of over 200 physicians within the first few years of operation.

St. Mark's Lone Peak Hospital will be part of MountainStar Healthcare, which includes St. Mark's Hospital in Salt Lake City, Ogden Regional Medical Center, Lakeview Hospital in Bountiful, Timpanogos Regional Hospital in Orem, Mountain View Hospital in Payson, and Brigham City Community Hospital.
